Wallsend Guest House and Glamping Pods

Stayed there in a glamping pod recently, the area was lovely the gardens were immaculate but the pod we had was worn and had seen better days. The step was soft and sunk when walking on it, there were very few utensils and some were broken, no batteries in the remote for tv so had to go and buy some but I wish I hadn’t as the signal was terrible and you couldn’t watch anything without it breaking up. Hot water went cold mid shower and the WiFi was sketchy to say the least. The pod could have been cleaner cobwebs everywhere around the doors , the toilet seat was loose and slides about. I only had one encounter with the owner and that was off site , I was flying my drone over the church and village and he challenged me asking who gave permission for me to use my drone as he owned all the land , when I calmly explained I didn’t need permission as it was a safe fly location and that I was a guest of his he changed his tune and left me alone. They did send my wife an email when we got back saying could she please leave a five star review, not quite yet. Update to my review in response to owners saying I never asked for permission to fly over their property. You don’t own the air space above your property and as a licensed operator and a fly safe zone I neither required your permission or consent to fly there , please acquaint yourselves with the aviation rules before making demands.

Barry & Michelle were first class hosts. Barry jumped on our luggage tag issue and straightened it out - I was completely confident that it bags would meet us at your next stop. The food and service was delish and the rooms are lovely. The garden is beautiful!

We recently stayed in a glamping pod for three nights (£440 total). While the setting was lovely and the stay was generally pleasant, we didn’t feel it offered good value for money. The hot tub was a key selling point, but it was wood-fired and took around three hours to heat, requiring constant attention. After long days of hiking, this wasn’t practical, and staff didn’t offer to prepare it in advance. The lid was also broken, meaning heat escaped, and we could only realistically use it once. We were given one bag of logs, which wasn’t even enough to heat the hot tub twice—nowhere near enough for a three-night stay—and having to purchase more just to use it felt unreasonable. There were also a few maintenance and usability issues: the shower head bracket was broken, meaning we had to hold the shower above our heads just to wash our hair. We also weren’t informed that the water needed boosting to heat it—resulting in cold showers when we were up early after long hikes. The WiFi was inconsistent, especially in the evenings. Communication was also disappointing—Barry, the host, came across as quite short and somewhat condescending in emails when we asked simple questions. Overall, a nice idea and location, but the experience didn’t quite match the price. Honestly, we felt we’d have been better off camping for a fraction of the price rather than “glamping” for closer to £500

We have stayed here a few times, always a warm welcome from Barry and Michelle. Well equipped glamping pod, comfortable double bed, hot shower, and picnic table outside for sunny evenings. Friendly pub just down the road which serves good pub food. Great for a visit to Campfield Marsh, where you can see ospreys and Marsh Harriers, but lots of good walks locally as well.
