The Garrison - Dandy Lodge

Cumberland

View on Google Maps

Bowness-on-Solway sits on the Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where cycle routes cross through marshland and coastal paths. The Garrison occupies the grounds of Fort Maia, a Roman settlement from the second century, with a small visitors' centre on site and remains still visible from excavations. This location puts you within reach of Hadrian's Wall, Carlisle, the Lake District's western fells, and Scotland's border country—all roughly half an hour away by car.

Dandy Lodge is a single-bedroom apartment on the ground floor, sleeping two in a double bed. The open-plan layout combines living, dining and kitchen areas, with a walk-in shower and heated towel rail in the bathroom. The kitchen has a full electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer, so you can cook proper meals or keep things simple. Wifi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included; heating is provided throughout. One car can park on site.

The property suits couples, and one well-behaved pet is welcome. Shared access to the on-site gym is available, and there's a bistro serving food. The complex sits in open countryside popular with walkers and cyclists—the coast-to-coast route passes near by—and for birdwatchers the marshes and coastal habitats support rich wildlife. No smoking inside.
