About The Cardinals Hat

The Cardinals Hat pairs a proper pub bar with a hotel's worth of rooms, all inside a centuries-old building in the middle of Worcester. Expect a good range of real ales, ciders and whiskies pulled by staff who know their stock, alongside a menu of solid pub classics such as steak and ale pie. Breakfast is served each morning, and there's a snack bar for anything lighter.

Rooms are en-suite and kept clean, with the sort of low-beamed, historic character you'd hope for in a building this old, and drinks can be brought straight to your room. A garden gives extra space to sit outside, and reception is staffed around the clock. Free WiFi covers the property throughout.

The central location means parking is nearby despite being in the thick of things, and there are other pubs, bars and restaurants within easy reach for anyone who fancies a change of scene. Golf and fishing are both available nearby for guests wanting to fill a day, with entertainment options close by too.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Masterclass in Historic Pub Culture! Visiting all the way from Wilmington, NC, we were thrilled to stumble upon this absolute gem! If you appreciate genuine history, The Cardinal’s Hat is a must-visit when you're in Worcester. It holds the title of the city's oldest recorded inn, with history stretching back to the 14th century when it originally served pilgrims visiting the nearby cathedral. Standing outside, you are immediately struck by the gorgeous Georgian brickwork and classic timber-framed façade. Inside, the atmosphere is unmatched—complete with leaded glass windows (including some beautiful bullseye panes), incredible wood panelling, and a striking limestone fireplace featuring the carved motif of the cardinal’s hat itself. Beyond the incredible architecture and deep-rooted heritage, the hospitality was top-notch. We stopped in for a few pints and had a fantastic time chatting with the bartender, who, in a wonderful twist of geographic coincidence, actually happened to be from Colorado! The available drafts and taps are stellar, offering a fantastic variety of beautifully kept traditional cask ales and premium bitters (like Wye Valley's Butty Bach and local favorites from Purity) alongside a great selection of continental beers. It is exactly the kind of authentic, lively, and historic alehouse experience you hope to find when traveling through England. We absolutely loved our evening here and will definitely be back the next time we cross the Atlantic!.

The Cardinal's Hat in Worcester is an absolute gem. We popped in for drinks and food and were blown away. From the moment you walk into this centuries-old pub, the atmosphere is just perfect – cosy, full of character, and with a welcoming smell of hops and a log burner to keep you warm. It's everything you want from a historic pub. The selection of drinks is brilliant. They have a great choice of real ales, like the Wye Valley Butty Bach, as well as an impressive range of ciders and whiskies. But the real star for us was the food. The steak and ale pie was absolutely delicious, and the cheesy mash on the side was a perfect comfort-food combo . You can really tell the ingredients are high quality and freshly prepared. What really makes this place special is the team. The staff are super-friendly, welcoming, and do a fantastic job of managing a busy pub while still making everyone feel looked after . It's no wonder they have such high ratings for service. Whether you're a local or just visiting Worcester, this place is a must. We'll definitely be back!

We stayed here for just one night. It’s a great location, very close to everything. The hotel is very nice and has lots of character. The room was extremely hot and stuffy which made it very uncomfortable. We could only open the window a small amount and fans provided did not provide much relief.
