Shire Cottage dates from the 1600s and sits on a working farm in Amber Valley, surrounded by the kind of landscape that draws walkers and wildlife enthusiasts. The cottage sleeps five across three bedrooms—a double, two singles and one further single—with one bathroom and a shower room. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are covered, along with Wi-Fi and parking for four cars on site.

The ground floor holds a living room with Freeview TV and DVD player, plus a kitchen-dining room with an electric cooker and microwave. A laundry room with washing machine is available (shared with another property). Outside, there's a patio with garden furniture and a bike store. The farm's appeal lies partly in its wildlife: badgers visit the farmyard each evening, and a white badger has been spotted among them. A private fishing pond on the property holds tench and crucian carp; a half-mile stretch of the River Derwent nearby has trout and grayling. The setting is rural and off the main roads, but a pub lies within a mile, and Matlock Bath is a short drive away. One dog can stay free. Smoking is not permitted inside.

What an amazing place. Spent a weekend here and truly was amazing to experience our stay in the snow. Great place to unwind also has beautiful public footpaths along the canal.
