Very interesting building. Lots of historical facts in many of the rooms. View is great from the roof. There are toilets to the left just before you go to the entry. There is also a signpost at the car park for a local cafe should anyone need food. Staff were very friendly and we were probably there about and hour and a half. Look out for lots of the original workers names and dates in the stonework just a shame that other ‘visitors’ felt the need to also carve their names in the stones which spoils it a bit.

This is great national trust site. It’s an unusual castle. You’ll not find many other red brick castles like this in the U.K. it’s a dog friendly site as well although they are not allowed in the main castle. Crafting activities and games were also available for the kids. The price for a family ticket was only £27 which is good value compared to a lot of other attractions of this type.

Brilliant find, an unusual red brick castle with so much history to it. Awesome views from the very top (lots of stairs!) and you can even see Lincoln Cathedral. Dog friendly grounds, plus shady car park (if you want to leave your dog in the car whilst you look inside the building). Staff were friendly and informative.

There’s a lot of stairs to the roof level but it’s worth the effort if you’re able. Made with 8,000,000 hand made bricks according to the guide, quite an amazing place. The walls must be over 20ft thick in places…!
