About Bankwood Farm
Tucked at the foot of the Pennines in Cumbria's Eden Valley, this tiny working dairy farm offers genuinely spectacular views stretching across fells all the way to the Lake District. Wildlife thrives here - red squirrels, barn owls, curlews and lapwings are regular visitors, with otters occasionally spotted too. The friendly farmers are happy to show you around the dairy operation and can even collect you from Appleby-in-Westmorland station (five miles away) or the Pennine Way by arrangement.
Choose between The Croft's non-electric grass pitches or The Shack's electric-optional gravel and grass spots suited to campervans and tents alike. Facilities include proper loos, hot showers, washing-up areas, phone charging points and a 24-hour honesty shop stocking camping essentials and treats. Picnic benches, a firepit and covered seating make for cosy evenings under wide Pennine skies.
Fair warning: the fields aren't perfectly flat, so the site suggests limiting yourself to two tents if level ground matters. But for those seeking remote, wild beauty with walks to Murton Pike and High Cup Nick on the doorstep, the uneven terrain is a small price to pay.

What visitors say
Stayed here for 4 nights in our camper van with two dogs. We will definitely be back. The location is incredible, stunning views and well away from the road. Facilities are good, the toilets are separate solid door ones with sinks inside and the showers are the same (not cubicle set up like a lot of sites). Water was hot and the showers are powerful. I wouldn't say they were super clean, but they weren't grim either. Just wear sliders in the shower 🙈 It's a reasonably basic campsite on a working farm so as long as you bare that in mind it's great. We had breakfast from the cafe one of the mornings. Very reasonably priced and it was lovely. Pitches all have fire pits and logs/kindling are cheaper than other sites I've stayed on. We stayed Monday- Friday term time so it was really quiet and peaceful. Not sure what it will be like when full but the pitches are spaced well. Happy the warden is amazing! Super friendly and chatty. He's very helpful and really cares about making sure people enjoy their stay. He's really knowledgeable, and even let us know when the Space Station would be passing over which was a treat to see living in a city with loads of light pollution. All the staff we met both for the site and farm as a whole were lovely.

Beautiful location! Would highly recommend staying here. We stayed in a cabin with a hot tub, everything was well presented and clean. It was a perfect peaceful weekend, with plenty of walks in the area. The sky at night was so clear we could see lots of stars. Quiet campsite. We will definitely be back! Also highly recommend the bacon sandwich’s from the shop Happy was our campsite warden and was super friendly. He checked everything was okay with us, and provided us with some good recommendations for food and walks.

We’ve just come back from a two-night stay at Baystone Bank Farm and honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The facilities were excellent – the shower and toilet block was spotless at all times, which really makes a difference when camping. The campsite itself is beautifully maintained and even has its own fire pit area, which added a lovely touch to the evenings. The whole site has such a calm and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for switching off and relaxing. There’s also a café on-site, which was a great bonus. The views are absolutely stunning, and being surrounded by friendly farm animals like horses and sheep made it feel even more special. What really stood out though was the staff. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. The owner is absolutely lovely, and the camp warden was always around if needed – super friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared that everyone was enjoying their stay. He even let us have a look inside the glamping pods, which was a nice extra. Overall, a 10/10 stay for us – we’ll definitely be coming back!🩷🏕️

Stayed here for a week in the Hook Knott Pod with my daughter. Absolutely superb! The pod is very comfortable and well appointed with gorgeous views and the site is pristine and very well maintained. The staff were really fantastic - super friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. I’d highly recommend a cooked breakfast at the on-site café 😋😍 My daughter also highly recommends the local ice cream from the on-site shop too!
