What visitors say
We really enjoyed taking our time to walk around the fort. It is quite impressive! The staff were very helpful and kind. There are several rooms that are period specific giving you an idea of life at the fort in the 1800s. There are informative displays describing the buildings and the creation of the fort. Even videos introducing the military units and traditions there over the years. My only wish would be for more areas of the fort to be available to view with more rooms being presented in period condition. Maybe a casement set up as a living quarters. A mess area. A kitchen perhaps. Etc. I know that takes a lot of effort and money to do that. And available space....just a wish. Also - free parking is nice! We loved walking all the way around the walls, around the bastions. What a lovely view on a sunny and warm day out over the water towards the distant mountains. Just a magnificent view. The fort itself is quite an experience. Very impressive.

If you walk up all around the wall, it’s one mile. Good exercise. Enjoy the scenery, the fresh air, and the tranquility. Plus, see soldiers train. We enjoy the outdoors, so we didn’t visit the museum.

What a fantastic experience visiting Fort George or lovingly knick named Fort torture by the squadies how occupied its barracks. The Highland exhibition was well laid out and very informative about our Scottish regiments through time and history more so their battle honours 🎖 🥇 🙏. A very humbling experience.

Excellent day out. Very reasonable entry price for a fantastic historic fort. Great museum, unbelievable fortifications, stunning views and even a chance of dolphins. You can also take your dog in. The only thing is, keep dogs, and possibly children, on a lead. Lots of very big drops. Great cafe too.

They also highlight the reasonable entry fee, the helpful audio guide, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff. Guests mention the on-site cafe and the chance to spot dolphins from the ramparts.
