With a stunning outlook over lush hills and valleys, Crooklands is a tiny, immaculately maintained touring site just a couple of minutes' drive from chocolate-box Austwick village in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Each of the handful of pitches sits on gravel and grass, fully serviced with electric hook-up, water supply, waste disposal and extra car parking space. Walks start straight from the pitches—ideal for stretching dogs' legs—and the location is perfect both as a handy overnighter en route to the Lakes (35 minutes) and as a springboard for exploring the Dales' cycling, climbing and spectacular scenery.
Foodie options abound nearby: Austwick's popular pubs serve good food, a superb deli near Settle (five minutes) stocks excellent cheeses, wines and ice creams, and Michelin-starred dining awaits in Hetton (half an hour). The site sits about 60 metres from the A65, which can be busy at times, so you may hear slight traffic noise—if total silence is essential, this isn't the spot, but for most it's a minor trade-off for such a well-kept, scenically blessed base.
