Working farm campsite with direct access to Lathkill Dale, three miles from Bakewell

About Haddon Grove Farm Campsite

Haddon Grove Farm Campsite sits on a working farm above Over Haddon, three miles from Bakewell, with direct footpath access into Lathkill Dale—one of the Peak District's least disturbed limestone valleys. The practical, unfussy set-up spreads around 140 pitches across five well-drained fields, including a dedicated family field with play area and twenty hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up. Two shower blocks installed in 2025 have brought facilities up to scratch, and the on-site shop stocks basics plus logs and fire-pit hire. A wood-fired pizza van appears at weekends; midweek, a mobile catering van covers breakfasts and evening meals for walkers too tired to cook.

Campfires and barbecues are allowed, dogs welcome on leads, and the farm offers caravan storage for regulars. The real advantage is being inside the dale itself rather than a drive away—you can step straight from your tent onto the trails Duke of Edinburgh groups use for expeditions. Some visitors note facilities can feel a little tired in places, but the location more than compensates.

We’ve stayed here several times and always enjoyed it, but our recent visit was disappointing and we probably won’t return. The owners are very friendly and the location is excellent, with lovely walks and easy access to Bakewell. The new facilities (bar, food outlets, and central toilet block) are nice but attract a different crowd. It’s great for a group weekend, less so if you’re after a quiet countryside break. The new showers and toilets are nice but don’t cope with the amount of campers (hundreds), they became dirty quickly and have some plumbing issues. Bins are still down by the farm, not a problem but we noticed more litter around, including dog waste in the bathroom bins and food bins. At £28 a night, it’s pricey compared to similar sites, especially with the sloping, uneven field. The biggest issue was noise. Two large groups pitched nearby playing loud music and shouting until 1:30am despite the signs asking for quiet after 11pm. It’s a shame, as we used to love the peaceful simplicity of this site. It seems to be about making as much money as possible now - high fees, overcrowded for the amount of facilities, overpriced food/ drink and shop). It feels more like a festival than a peaceful retreat.

May bank holiday. Arrived on Saturday to about 4 fields full of campers. They had obviously just accepted every booking. Probably 1000 (not an exaggeration!) people with just 5 male and 5 female toilets. The water in the toilet taps was out from Saturday to Monday. At one point on Saturday they were flushing the toilets with buckets. Showers were also out of order Saturday, finally managed to get a shower Sunday at 5pm, but they stopped working again by Monday morning. Any hot water also ran out very quickly. Clearly they had cash grabbed with the bank holiday and warm temps, and put no effort into making sure there was adequate facilities or water available. I'm sure the site is fine when it's quite and did have nice views and access to walks and Bakewell.

Just stayed at Haddon grove farm over the bank holiday weekend for the first time in the caravan and this place ticked every box for us. Location is absolutely stunning, the facilities were great and the added bonus of having a wood fired pizza stand, a fully stocked mobile bar and a takeout food trailer that did some decent burgers. My daughter had hours of fun on the rope swings and aches of space to run around. Just about to book again for August bank holiday. This is now our new go to campsite to get away for the weekend.

Brilliant campsite, well set up with toilets/showers/kitchen room/washing up area. Very close (10 mins drive) to Bakewell. We stayed on a hardstanding pitch with no electric. The veiws over the fields were gorgeous. Little shop on site with all the essentials. Coffee machine to buy from in the kitchen block. Friday and Saturday night there were 3 mobile food trucks - a bar, pizza oven and burger/Greek place. Super friendly hosts and easy check in process. Highly recommend!
