Really well preserved Abbey. I recommend doing as we did and parking in Barnard Castle and then following the river down to Egglestone. Only takes about 20 minutes and is definitely worth doing. The Abbey is quite small so isn't a full day out but is still very beautiful and worth the visit.

This Abbey must have been beautiful in its day. The ruins are pretty and situated on a perfect plot. Car park next to the Abbey with a small charge. Lots of walkers in the area with their dogs and children

Beautifully located near the river and easy to walk to from the town of Barnard Castle. We did a pretty circular walk. It's only a ruin but interesting to take a quick look at.

Egglestone Abbey is a late‑12th‑century Premonstratensian monastery set above a bend in the River Tees. The ruins include parts of the 13th‑century church, the cloister ranges, and the remains of the canons’ living quarters, complete with traces of their medieval drainage system. parking charge for non‑English Heritage members. The site is open daily and takes about 30–60 minutes to look around — enough to get a sense of the layout without feeling rushed, or 10 minutes on a cold wet day.
