Smallshaw Cottages - Rowan Cottage

Rowan Cottage is a conversion of a 17th-century barn, set on elevated grounds with panoramic views across the Peak District. The property sleeps four across two bedrooms—a king bed upstairs and two singles in the second room—and comes with two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower. The setting works well for couples and families wanting a quieter break, or for small groups who need their own self-catering space. One pet is welcome.

The ground floor has a living room with TV and DVD player, plus a kitchen/dining room with everything you need to cook properly: electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. Heating is biomass underfloor, and essentials like bed linen, towels, electricity and wi-fi are included. The cottage sits within 2 acres of shared landscaped grounds; you get a private patio and garden furniture, with a summerhouse also available to guests. Three parking spaces are provided. The grounds include a tennis court, and use of a wood-fired hot tub that runs 8am to 10pm—this is where many guests spend their evenings. A barbecue hut is on-site if you want to arrange it. Note that there are five steps down into the garden.

The on-site spa offers treatments and facilities available separately—massages, facials, steam rooms, saunas—and is known for maintaining a quiet, unhurried atmosphere. No smoking is permitted in the cottage. Arrival is after 4pm and departure before 10am.

Excellent communication from the start. On arrival staff were lovely, gave us a tour and explained facilities well. Complimentary drink too. Not over crowded and managed to use all the facilities. Well organised day. We'll definitely be back. Thank you 😊

Absolutely will be booking again. My 60 minute treatment was amazing. The lady talked me through my treatment so I knew what to expect. The spa facility was also lovely and relaxing. Price of a 60 minute treatment and the use of the spa was really good price. Can’t wait to visit again

The different saunas and experiences are all great and the hot tub with wonderful views was fabulous. My treatment was a facial and it was so relaxing and my skin looked amazing afterwards. The therapist who did it was friendly and professional and it was a lovely experience.
