About Maindee Guest House

Maindee Guest House occupies a Victorian townhouse on Abbey Road in Barrow-in-Furness, its period frontage giving way to a straightforward, unpretentious B&B inside. The rooms are kept low-key rather than styled up, each with an en-suite bathroom, and there's a TV lounge for guests who want to sit and relax after a day out. Free WiFi runs throughout, and drinks are available in the room.

Breakfast is included, with packed lunches available for those heading off early to walk or explore. Outside there's a garden and outdoor seating, useful on a fine morning, and practical extras include 24 hour reception, luggage storage, laundry service and free on-site parking. Business services are also on hand for anyone travelling for work.

The house is well placed for getting out into Cumbria and the Lake District, and locally there's no shortage of things to do, with golf, fishing and watersports nearby, along with pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach. It suits guests after a no-fuss base rather than a polished hotel experience.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely wonderful, caring place This is such a lovely, welcoming guest house. The people running it are so kind and thoughtful—they really go out of their way to make you feel safe, comfortable, and properly looked after. Everything is kept clean and nice, and it feels like a real home, not just somewhere to stay. You can see how much hard work and care goes into looking after everyone here. It’s such a shame to see unfair reviews, because this place deserves so much praise. If you want somewhere that treats you with respect and real kindness—this is the perfect place to stay. I couldn’t recommend it more. Much love JB

I stayed for a night during a meditation retreat at Manjushri in Ulverston. The room was comfy and super clean. Ian was wonderful, very helpful and accommodating. If anyone is considering this location for Kadampa Festivals, the bus was a short walk and dropped off right in front of the Coop in Ulverston, just a few minutes walk from Manjushri. I had an absolutely lovely experience!

I highly recommend this guest house! The owners, Ian and Phoebe, are lovely! They have a tiny Chihuahua and a cat—both are absolutely adorable. The house is a 5-minute walk from the train station, Tesco, and a park.

We stayed for Dave Day and the owner stored our motorbikes safely in the rear locked yard. We had 2 single rooms which were well equipped with brewing facilities TV and sink. The rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. On our floor there was 4 rooms sharing 2 toilets and shower room. These again were clean and tidy. The owner couldn't do enough for us. In fact one of our bikes had a flat battery and he helped us to get it started. All in all a lovely stay. Was just room only which suited us and to be fair probably the peak weekend in Barrow and the price was not inflated unlike other establishments. Would definitely stay again. Thanks Andy and Dave.
