About The Base Vegan Retreat
Bristol's harbourside area is home to The Base Vegan Retreat, a sustainable stay on Hollyguest Road that combines plant-based hospitality with an animal sanctuary guests can wander around, meeting rescued animals as part of their visit. Every stay contributes directly to the care of these animals, giving the retreat a purpose beyond the usual overnight stop.
Guests stay in cabins that are comfortable, well-equipped and kept spotless, each with an en-suite bathroom, garden views and drinks provided in the room. A vegan breakfast is included, and afternoon tea is on offer for those wanting something extra. On-site facilities stretch to a private spa with a hot tub, sauna and cold plunge, along with gardens and outdoor seating for quieter moments. Staff are friendly and accommodating, and pets are welcome too.
Free on-site parking and 24-hour reception make arrivals easy, while a golf course, pub, bar and restaurants nearby give options beyond the retreat itself. It's a short stretch from Bristol Harbour, making it a practical base as well as a destination in its own right.

What guests say
This experience will hold a very special place in our hearts. It is a joy and very peaceful to be around such happy animals, who are safe and loved 🌱 The hosts Jacqui and Fiaz are very friendly. As are the beautiful animals - especially Pudding, a turkey 🥹 The cabin is perfect. It’s got everything you need and very comfortable and special. The breakfast is absolutely delicious. We booked an evening spa session which was delightful. Our only regret was not booking an afternoon tea (but next time!)

What a truly special place. From the moment we arrived, we felt so welcome. Jacqui and Fiaz’s love and passion for animals shines through in everything they do. They have created such a warm, peaceful, and friendly space where both people and animals can simply relax and feel at home. It was wonderful to see the turkeys coming over to say hello, the cheeky guinea pig deciding he would rather spend his time exploring under the decking, and the rabbit looking completely content, happily snoozing away under the steps. I would highly recommend the vegan cream tea. The vegan Scotch egg was absolutely delicious, the canapés were so moreish, followed by freshly made scones with vegan whipped cream. To finish, we enjoyed the most yummy small cakes and tiffin. Knowing that no animals had suffered for our meal made the whole experience feel even more special. A beautiful place with kind-hearted people, happy animals, and food made with compassion. I would definitely recommend a visit.

I can't put into words how much we loved our stay here. We only stayed for one night as a birthday treat for myself and I honestly felt like I could stay forever 🥹 The animals are obviously the highlight. So many beautiful personalities. So many funny, cheeky, sweet and perfect babies. We spent hours just watching them 🦃❤️ The location is amazing with stunning views over the hills. Easy to find and we got an Uber to and from the city centre with ease. Very well signposted. I loved that we were pretty much left to our own devices. We said a brief hello to the owners as they worked on the yard/hot tub area and both were lovely and welcoming! The cabin itself is gorgeous. So cosy, homely and full of important vegan messaging and resources/information. Our afternoon tea was laid out ready for us, all of which was delicious!! The extra tiffins were so good too. We had the cooked breakfast brought out to us the next morning which was so fresh and tasty too 🥹🌱❣️ I could go on and on forever about how amazing our stay was. I don't think I've ever been happier to be vegan.

We had the best time at the Base, the space itself was incredible with so many beautiful animals (shout out to the turkeys in particular!), but the accommodation itself was amazingly spacious with such modern and high quality design. Also- so Clean!! Even the animal area which was unexpected, as naturally- animals! The deck was an amazing place to relax and unwind, the space a great bonus (definitely worth it for ultimate relaxation). The whole vibe was private and your own, despite being in someone’s land, and the owners made such an effort to ensure it felt that way, like taking the opportunity when we were at the spa to care for the animals. It felt overall so thoughtful, and a proper reset. The games were such a good thing to have there, and amazing vegan delivery places in reach! Breakfast was also such high standard!
