A pub-hotel on Gloucester Road in Bristol, with 8 rooms above a bar known for its beer garden and Sunday roasts.

About The Wellington

Gloucester Road runs through one of Bristol's liveliest independent shopping and eating stretches, and The Wellington sits among it as a pub with rooms rather than a conventional hotel. It's a straightforward, well-placed base for exploring the city, with free on-site parking a useful bonus on a busy street like this one.

There are just 8 rooms, each en-suite with air conditioning, free WiFi, room service and drinks available, so the accommodation stays compact and personal rather than corporate. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar do much of the work: breakfast and kids' meals are available, the Sunday roasts have a good reputation, and there's a beer garden with outdoor seating for warmer days. A weekly pub quiz hosted by Emma draws a regular local crowd, and staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive. Food quality is generally well regarded, though some find the prices on the higher side.

Beyond the pub itself, Gloucester Road offers plenty of nearby restaurants, bars and entertainment, with golf and watersports also within reach for those looking to venture further afield. A lift and concierge services round out the practical side of a stay that's more about character than scale.

Had Sunday roast lunch which was served quickly but cold. The choice of wine was good but pricey for a large glass. Coffee machine was broken. All in all quite disappointing.

Lovely pub and really lovely rooms! In a great location as well, with fab access to the city centre and to both train stations in Bristol. Really enjoyed our stay here and would thoroughly recommend, staff were super friendly and housekeeping were very accommodating to our needs and made the stay extra special. The food is great, such a good range and tasty too!!!

Carl the manager is excellent - really welcoming and can’t do enough for you. Izzy and Grace were looking after us and they also were excellent - service with a smile, and again nothing was too much trouble for them. The pub itself is top notch with a good selection of drinks and the food also was very good. The outdoor space is good but has potential to make it better and used more in colder weather, if heaters were installed in the patio area and the old play area was made better use of, for example. Overall I love this pub and we are very lucky to live close by.
