About The Old Wainhouse

Just four rooms make up The Old Wainhouse, a small pub-with-rooms at Wainhouse Corner near Bude on the Cornish coast. It's a compact set-up, but that keeps things personal, with guests looked after in an en-suite room and a proper Cornish pub downstairs rather than a large anonymous hotel.

The restaurant is the heart of the place, with hearty roasts and steaks served in generous portions at fair prices, alongside a bar and breakfast to start the day. Rooms come with free WiFi, and the property offers a garden, 24 hour reception and free on-site parking, useful given the rural corner it occupies. Staff are generally warm and welcoming and dogs are made properly welcome throughout, though service has occasionally been reported as patchy at busy times.

Beyond the pub, the surrounding area offers golf, fishing, watersports and further pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, making it a workable base for exploring the beaches and coastline around Bude. It suits travellers after a straightforward, characterful stopover rather than extensive hotel facilities.

After being told how good this place was, I decided to take the wife there for dinner. We started with prawn cocktail, which was buetifully presented pitty that it was served with what looked like shrimps instead of prawns, followed by the Lasagne. If I was to mark the Lasagne out of 10, I would certainly give it a good 3.1/2 or 4 out of 10. In my opinion medioca food at greatly inflated prices. Okay as a last resort or desperate.

Went for a meal here, unfortunately I can only give 5 stars but deserves 10, I like my steak well done and this one was, but still very tender and flavourful, the best steak I have ever had, The whole meal was tasty the staff and customers made and our dog welcome. The staff incredibly friendly and helpful, can wholly recommend, we will have to book another holiday just to enjoy the food and ambience again. Thank you so much, lucky snogs from Cody the Staffie

Fantastic pub and the staff working there were brilliant! My only niggle was I was waiting to be offended and it didn’t happen. Food, service and value for money was excellent!

Visited here yesterday absolutely starving. Despite all day food being advertised outside we were told that no food available. The nice young man did ask the landlady if she (as the stand in chef ) could make us a sandwich but she said no she needed to wash her car. We have visited here before and didn't find it particularly friendly. This visit has just make us decide not to visit again. No wonder so many pubs are shutting. You need to be nice to the locals to see you through the quieter seasons
