About Dog and Partridge by Greene King Inns

Sunday roasts, chicken Kiev and a good range of beers and wines are the main draw at Dog and Partridge by Greene King Inns, a traditional pub with rooms on Crown Street in Bury Saint Edmunds. The kitchen doesn't always get the timing right, with some dishes coming out overcooked, but the food is generally well-liked and served in a cosy, welcoming bar and restaurant area where staff are consistently helpful and friendly.

The inn has nine en-suite rooms spread across two floors, including family rooms, with free WiFi and drinks available in-room. Breakfast is included, and the rooms themselves are clean and comfortable, making this a straightforward base for exploring the town rather than a destination in its own right. There's free on-site parking and 24-hour reception for guests arriving at odd hours.

Beyond the pub itself, Bury Saint Edmunds offers plenty within easy reach, with other pubs, bars and restaurants nearby along with a golf course and local entertainment options. It suits anyone wanting a proper pub atmosphere with a bed attached, rather than a polished hotel experience.

Visited here several times and always a warm welcome. A very original pub with plenty of character and snug rooms. Out back there’s a really nice beer garden with unique views of the neighbouring Greene King Brewery, of which this is a tied pub. I’m not the biggest fan of GK beers, but this is still a pub worth visiting despite this.

Popped in for lunch on the basis they did gluten-free options and luckily they did. We had a Chicken BLT and a very tasty salad. Enjoyed so much we came in the evening for a meal. It was on one of those +40°C days and the staff brought a fan to our table to keep us and the dog cool. Very friendly staff and made a special fuss over our dog. Meat pie with the trimmings was lovely; however, the meat was tough and needed slow cooking beforehand to be more tender. Had 2 beer paddles of different 3x 1/3 pint ales, all good. Lots of outdoor seating and a cool interior. Would perhaps consider staying here next time in town.

One of the best, if not the best, Greene Kings in Bury St Edmunds. Beautiful location, great outdoor seating, and good service. We came in as a family with our dog and six month old son and the kitchen went out of their way to make him a batch of mushy peas for him to try!

We went into this pub, the first time, for a quick drink on a beautiful sunny day after walking round Abbey Gardens. We went to the bar and was immediately told 'you order the other side, there is a sign saying so'. Plainly had we seen the sign we would have followed the instructions. After ordering our drinks, from the same very rude barman, he gave us our drinks. I politely asked which was which, his response was to pick each up slam them down and said, one with lime one with lemon. Has i known that i would not have asked the question. The outside area is lovely, but won't return due to an incredibly rude barman, such a shame
