About The Chantry Hotel

The Chantry Hotel occupies a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse dating from 1780 on Sparhawk Street, with an adjoining Tudor annexe from the sixteenth century, set within the medieval grid at the heart of Bury St Edmunds. Its fourteen non-smoking bedrooms and residents-only policy give the hotel a notably quiet, settled atmosphere compared with some of the town's larger properties.

A lounge bar stocked with books and magazines gives guests somewhere to relax after a day of sightseeing, and free off-road parking, with a space allocated per bedroom, is a genuine advantage in a town centre where parking is otherwise scarce. Free internet is provided throughout the building.

The hotel's location puts it within a few minutes' walk of the Cathedral, the Theatre Royal, the Apex venue and Bury's independent shops and restaurants, making it a practical, well-placed base for exploring the town entirely on foot.

My first visit at Chantry Hotel and it will not be last. The service was something special with this English family owned hotel either impeccable hospitality. Pete was so much fun to talk with as he explained to me how the hotel is run. The highlight for me was the biscuits that were left in my room each morning that served as a great evening snack. Small walk into city center from the hotel allowed for a great way to get some steps. Can not recommend the hotel enough.

My husband and I had a lovely stay this weekend. Perfect location, very cosy hotel which felt like a home from home, it has a very vintage feeling to it and great character. The rooms were spotless and the beds were very comfy. Every member of staff we came across were friendly and helpful. If we're ever in the area again, we'd stay here for sure!

We’ve stayed at The Chantry Hotel twice over the last 3 months. Nigel and Val are amazing hosts and their warm welcome and efficient, friendly manner is refreshing! Breakfast is also THE BEST! Will always use The Chantry for our stopovers as the experience can’t be bettered elsewhere!

We had a lovely stay while meeting up with a friend this weekend. welcoming and friendly, and everything was so convenient — from the parking to the easy walking distance into town. Our room was comfortable with both a bath and shower, plus tea and coffee facilities. We also really appreciated how quiet it was; we had a great night’s sleep, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
