Llyn y Fan, the legendary lake nestled above Llanddeusant, lies within walking distance of Herdwick Hut, as does direct access to Black Mountain via footpaths and bridleways from the surrounding farmland. The area sits within Wales's first International Dark Sky Reserve, making it exceptional for stargazing on clear nights. This part of Carmarthenshire suits anyone wanting serious time outdoors without the usual tourist infrastructure.
The hut itself is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom structure sleeping two, with all of it on ground level (though steep steps lead to the entrance). Inside: a living room with woodburner, a dining area, a kitchen with gas hob and fridge, and a bedroom with a double bed. An external shower room sits separate from the main building. The garden is enclosed, furnished, and includes a BBQ and firepit. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and wood fuel are included; you also get a welcome pack. The property takes two cars in its private parking area and does not permit smoking.
The hut can accommodate a travel cot and highchair. A small pond occupies part of the garden. The enclosed outdoor space and on-site facilities mean you can stay largely self-contained, though the walking and the landscape are what draw people here.
