Hotels in Cauldon
10 handpicked places to stay

Hotels in Cauldon itself are essentially non-existent, a reflection of just how small this Staffordshire Moorlands hamlet is, but the surrounding villages fill the gap well. Waterhouses, a mile away and the parish centre since 1934, has a traditional coaching-inn-style pub with rooms, ideal for anyone wanting to walk or cycle the Manifold Way straight from their door. A short drive further out, Leek and Ashbourne both offer a broader choice of hotels, inns and guesthouses, from historic market-town pubs to modern chain hotels, and both make sensible bases for touring the southern Peak District.
Because Cauldon sits almost equidistant between Leek and Ashbourne on the A523, it is well placed as a quiet overnight stop for people touring rather than staying put, particularly if Dovedale, Ilam, Thor's Cave or Alton Towers are on the itinerary. Booking ahead is sensible in summer and around school holidays, when the limited stock of rooms in the immediate Manifold Valley area fills up quickly, especially anything close to the trailheads at Waterhouses and Hulme End. Anyone prioritising walking or cycling access should look first at Waterhouses; anyone wanting more choice of restaurants and shops in the evening will likely be better served basing themselves in Leek or Ashbourne and driving in.
