About Elephant Rock Hotel
Elephant Rock takes its name from the basalt formation on the shore nearby and its look from art deco, which it commits to properly - geometric tiling, brass, deep greens and pinks, and a cocktail bar that would not be out of place in a much larger city. It is small, individually owned and noticeably more design-led than anything else in Portrush.
There are seven room categories, from single rooms starting around 90 pounds a night to executive sea-view doubles from about 225 pounds, with breakfast included across the board. The restaurant seats only thirty and runs a modern seasonal menu built on local ingredients and north coast seafood, with ocean views from most tables; booking ahead is sensible even for residents. Vi's, the private event space, handles smaller functions.
The position in the centre of Portrush puts both blue-flag beaches, the harbour and the Ramore restaurants within a few minutes on foot, and the railway station is close enough to make arriving by train from Belfast entirely practical. The hotel also partners with local operators for surfing, coasteering and guided coastal tours, which is useful if you arrive without a plan. Best suited to couples and small groups rather than families with young children.

We stayed here for one night and had a very colourful room with a wonderful view across the sea to the Giant’s causeway in the very distant. Dinner was excellent. We had monkfish and cod. Very tasty and perfectly cooked. But the highlight was the avocado smash for breakfast! It was possibly the best I have ever had. A deep layer of avocado with two perfectly cooked poached eggs. It was extremely tasty. Staff made you feel right at home and couldn’t do enough to please. I thought the hotel ticked all the boxes hence 5 stars.

Good points. ●The hotel is beautifully decorated throughout. ●Food was delicious, both our evening meal & breakfast the following morning. ●We had a spacious room at the front of the building with a great Seaview ●Staff were fantastic ●Very clean Bad points ● our room had very creeky flooring (room 5) ● we requested a late check out priced at £40 on top of our £340 room rate to repeatedly get woken each time someone passed the corridor outside our room as the floorboards are so noisy.

An Exceptional Space! This hotel is wonderful. Having stayed several times now, our most recent visit at Easter 2026 was our best yet. Enjoying the hospitality so much, we asked William in reception about the possibility of staying an extra night- this was arranged without any fuss. We were accommodated for dinner on a very busy Good Friday having forgotten to book. All of the people in this hotel are warm, welcoming, lovely people- from the owner to the manager to the waiting and admin staff, it’s the people who make a hotel and this shines through. We had an absolutely delightful afternoon tea experience yesterday! (Thursday 23rd) The food was the real highlight—beautifully presented, and incredibly fresh. The soup, finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries were all tasty. Staff were very attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into every detail. We also met the owner. A truly wonderful way to spend an afternoon—I’ll definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a special, relaxing experience.
