Llandewi Brefi sits on the Afon Brefi in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains, a village with Roman origins and a history as a livestock drover's route. Today it's quieter, with a shop and two pubs, but surrounded by countryside that rewards exploration on foot or by bike. Ivy Bush Cottage occupies one of four stone dwellings built 150 years ago; the family still owns three of them. The exposed stonework and wooden beams remain, along with a multi-fuel burner that warms the open-plan ground floor, where a kitchen with electric cooker, dishwasher and washing machine sits alongside the sitting and dining areas.
Upstairs are two bedrooms—one with a king bed, one with two singles—and a bathroom with bath and shower. The garden is enclosed and lawned, with patio seating and a barbecue; a carport accommodates one car. One pet stays free. Wi-Fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included, as is fuel for the stove to begin with. The market town of Tregaron is three miles away. No smoking indoors.
