About Cheltenham Lawn and Pittvile Gallery
Pittville Lawn is one of Cheltenham's quieter Regency streets, lined with grand townhouses close to the leafy Pittville area, and it's here that Cheltenham Lawn and Pittvile Gallery makes its home. The building itself dates from that era, and its period character has been kept largely intact rather than smoothed over with generic modernisation.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and handcrafted furniture that nods to the house's Regency origins, along with drinks available in room. Breakfast is included and vegetarian, served each morning, and the property operates a 24 hour reception for guests coming and going at odd hours. There's a garden to sit out in, meeting rooms for those combining the stay with work, and free on-site parking, which is a genuine convenience in this part of Cheltenham. As an adults-only property, it tends to suit couples and those wanting a calmer stay rather than families.
Beyond the front door, guests are within reach of pubs, bars, restaurants and other eateries, plus a nearby golf course and local entertainment options. It's worth noting that opinions on the place have been mixed, so it suits those drawn specifically to its period character and setting rather than those expecting a polished, uniform hotel experience.
What guests say
Nice location in the leafy suburbs of Cheltenham about a mile out of town, however we had room 7 at the back the property which unfortunately backs on to Prestbury Road which can be fairly busy. We could not check in before 17.30 which I thought was a little odd. We were greeted by the owners and they were very friendly, we had a brief exchange and were shown to our room which was on the top floor. The room was very nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable, however it was very dusty, and the kettle and bedding wasn't the cleanest. The following morning we had breakfast which wasn't explained very well, not only to ourselves but there was also confusion with other guests. I will say at this point, the lady of the house was recovering from a very serious back injury. Do I think it was worth the £100 we paid for one night, no I don't, not when you consider we paid £75 for two nights stay in Gloucester at the beginning of June. Would I recommend The Cheltenham Lawn, yes I would, but be prepared to be disappointed.

A quirky, unique and friendly B&B. Decent sized rooms and we'll looked after. The place is filled with unique artwork by the owners. On the whole the room was clean, but not immaculate (dusty in places). Breakfast was ok but didn't live up to the reputation. Lots of narrow stairs to traverse if you're on the top floor.

AVOID. An utterly bizarre experience. They don’t seem to be set up for any sort of positive guest experience at all. On arrival it transpired we were the only guests. We were asked when we’d like breakfast the next morning - before we could even respond we were firmly told we could have it at 0830, end of. The room was OK. The bathroom was awful, with a cheap electric shower that changed from freezing cold to scalding hot in an instant. Then, breakfast. Instant coffee put in a cafetière. A choice of eggs, on toast, was all you got - with tomatoes, potatoes and mushrooms. Yes, they’re big on vegetarian food apparently - shame they made no allowance for anyone being GF. We could hear a microwave pinging constantly while waiting for the food, which was barely edible, overcooked and cold at the same time. And then we tried to check out. Where they demanded payment even though we’d already paid through a booking app, which in their eyes didn’t count as they hadn’t received the money yet. They became quite threatening, so we paid (again) and left. It took weeks to get a refund, and the proprietor descended to personal insults in her emails, and alleged we damaged their property while there. We had to initiate legal action to get the refund. Seriously, do not book to stay at this place.

I was initially unable to find the hotel and despite calling the number provided on the site and leaving a message I had no response. When I finally found the property I had to knock on a door to gain access. I was greeted by a gentleman who was pleasant but was not aware I was arriving and confirmed they had no bookings today. Luckily I was able to proove my booking via a email chain and receipt of payment and after ten minutes of the gentleman shuffling around wuth no shoes on being left in the corridor on my own they found my reservation but had no room ready. I was assured my bag would be taken to my room once made up but when I returned later in the evening my bag was still in the corridor. Onto the morning and I went downstairs around 8am for breakfast but nothing was open and no signs to confirm where to go. For fairness a parking permit was arranged for my car but overall a very poor experience.
