On an extremely hot day we arrived early to this beautiful hotel in the Pittsville section of Cheltenham. It is located a short walk from downtown through historic Pittsville- developed in late 1800s and filled with white Georgian buildings. We were warmly greeted and immediately impressed by the glamorous mixture of contemporary and nostalgic decor. While the hotel is not centrally air-conditioned, they position portable air conditioning in the occupied rooms and as much as possible, cleverly use flow through ventilation in other areas. Thus, our stay was very comfortable. Our room was tastefully and thoughtfully decorated- emphasizing the time period of the building but also modern with a very large shower (the roomiest we’ve had in a month of English travel) and two sinks! We ate in the hotel restaurant and the quality came as a stunning surprise. This is an absolutely top notch restaurant- rivaling the best we had on this trip including two Ottolenghi restaurants in London. One such surprise was the gazpacho which is a clear soup of intense distilled tomato essence. We could not get over how delicious it was. Similarly every course of this meal was eye-candy and taste-bud bursting. Highly recommend a meal here.

Lovely character townhouse hotel, just 10 minutes stroll to the town centre. Nicely furnished, comfy bed with nice linens. Lovely restaurant, enjoyed a nice dinner. Very nice courtyard area for drinks, but it was too hot for us to sit out - ciild do with brollies out there. Sweet little snug bar, but not fully stocked. We did visit during one of a series of heatwaves. Rooms without air conditioning are very hot, with windows not opening much. Big Dyson fans either side of bed helped, but it was a struggle to sleep. Charming hotel, probably even nicer in colder months!

Hotel sits on the edge of a park and about 10 minutes from the town centre on foot. Lovely quaint rooms, really well put together. Rooms are very warm in summer - especially the two on the top floor, basically attic rooms, these were roasting - and the road is noisy all night so an issue leaving windows open, but they do provide a Dyson fan in the room, along with a lot of other nice touches that you can’t always take for granted these days: nespresso machine, hair conditioner in the shower, free little cookies and port. The breakfast buffet is small and basic, better to order off the menu. There were a few things staff didn’t handle well: closing the car park for a wedding but only notifying us in the middle of the day and ringing to ask if we could move our car when we were already out for the whole day. The fire alarm went off at about 6am because something had burnt in the kitchen in turns out, we all evacuated of course, and not a SINGLE word from staff, they didn’t facilitate the evacuation which I’m pretty sure they’re supposed to be trained to do (burnt bacon or not!) so everything was a bit chaotic and more to the point, they at no point came out to the car park to tell us we could go back inside and it was a false alarm!! Everyone was stood out there in their night gowns for ages and ages, very confused about what was going on, and the staff were just nowhere to be seen?? Eventually people were like screw it and just went back to their rooms! Staff were just milling inside with seemingly no care for the fact the entire hotel was on the car park waiting for news? And certainly no apology that we’d all been awoken in a panic at 6am because they hadn’t kept an eye on the stove…Terribly unprofessional and makes me wonder how a “real” fire would be handled.

We loved our stay at No. 38 The Park! As exhausted hikers who'd just finished a day on the trail of the Cotswolds Way, we were grateful for the no-hassle early check-in by a very friendly and welcoming staff member (who even carried our bags up to our room for us). The room was gorgeous: beautiful styling, comfortable king bed, park view, enormous bathroom, large bathtub. The location of the hotel is also very convenient, walking distance to the Brewery Quarter and tons of restaurants and shops. Definitely got what we paid for!
