Rumbolds Retreat is a 16th-century farmhouse on a working farm, surrounded by 130 acres of pasture and ancient oak forest on the Sussex-Surrey border. The property sleeps 12 across six bedrooms and five bathrooms, making it suitable for large family gatherings or groups of friends. Public footpaths lead directly from the grounds, and a fenced lake sits about 100 yards away; the farm itself includes one of Sussex's oldest barns, dating to 1578.
The main house combines period features—exposed beams, slate flooring, an inglenook fireplace with wood burner—with modern comfort. Ground floor living space includes a sitting room with Netflix, a kitchen with full cooking facilities, and a utility room. Six bedrooms are split between ground and first floors, accessed by separate staircases, each with either ensuite or shared bathroom facilities. Upstairs bedrooms have Freeview television. A travel cot and highchair are available. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and initial logs for the wood burner are included; oil central heating covers the winter months. Parking accommodates three cars on site, with additional spaces on the road. The grounds have a sitting-out area with garden furniture, and a pagoda. The property is non-smoking.
Petworth House and its gardens lie roughly ten minutes' drive away, with antique shops and regular concerts. The South Downs and West Dean Gardens are also within reach for a day out.
