Tucked into six acres of Wiltshire countryside near Chippenham, Bella's Thoroughfare offers a peaceful base for exploring Roundway Down battlefield, where one of the English Civil War's fiercest clashes unfolded in 1643. Footpaths wind from the field through woodlands to the historic site itself – a ten-minute walk that's prime territory for spotting buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and visiting swallows. Summer evenings bring bat displays overhead, and there's a cider farm just five minutes down the road for a proper West Country taste.
Back at this tiny pop-up site, you'll find composting facilities, a communal fridge, and a three-by-three-metre gazebo. The barbecue setup thoughtfully separates veggie and meat stations, and optional forest school activities can be arranged for both kids and adults. Dogs are welcome on leads (there's livestock about), and while the setup is decidedly low-key, the lack of electric hook-ups suits the wild-camping vibe. A hidden gem! We came for a hen do and had the best time. The setting really exceeded our expectations. The beds were extremely comfortable. The grounds were huge and well kept. The bathroom facilities were clean. Good fridge space too! The owner was also absolutely lovely and was always on hand when we needed him.

This campsite is one of a kind, and if you’re looking to book a site for a large group look no further! Matt is an amazing host, he did everything he could to make the weekend stress free. The facilities are spotless, and they’ve ensured both the tents and the dining area has everything you need.

We had an amazing stay at Roe Deer Fields for my friend's hen do. Matt and Nikita were so helpful in the lead up and during our stay. The site is so clean and organized, the rooms are much bigger than expected and the beds were really comfy. Would highly recommend!!!
