About The Volunteer Inn

The Volunteer Inn is an 18th-century pub set on St Catharine's Square, a short walk from Chipping Campden's High Street, offering straightforward bed and breakfast accommodation across nine guest rooms above its own bar and restaurant.

The Maharaja Restaurant serves a mix of Indian and English dishes, an unusual and popular addition to the town's largely traditional dining scene, making the inn a practical choice for those who want dinner and a bed under one roof without booking elsewhere.

Rooms are simply furnished but comfortable, and the inn's position just off the main High Street keeps it close to the town's shops, church and Market Hall while offering a slightly quieter square to return to at night.

We used Volunteer Inn's luggage forwarding service throughout our Cotswolds walk. They planned and executed everything without a problem. We had no worries at all about our luggage arriving to each next destination while we trekked. I would highly recommend them to anyone doing an inn-to-inn walk in the region.

We stayed at the Volunteer Inn while doing an inn-to-inn walking vacation through the Cotswolds. Our room was clean and well-appointed, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious! The inn was conveniently located in the town, close to our route and to the shops we needed to pick up provisions on our onward walking journey. All in all, it was a great stay, albeit brief, and we recommend the Volunteer Inn, particularly to other inn-to-inn travelers!

The room we were given here was beautiful, huge room, very clean with big beautiful bathroom. Couldn’t knock the room or the staff. Breakfast in the morning was also excellent. My only complaint was noise, not a huge issue for us as I packed earplugs & a sleep mask that plays white noise! I could see the noise being a problem in busier months throughout the year if you are a light sleeper.

We recently moved to village life, and have had a few Indian takeaways from this establishment. It goes without saying now settled in, that it was time to try a sit in meal at the resturant. We were not disappointed, My duck curry was fantastic and my wife's veggie curry, she said was the best she had tried. All in all we recommend the Maharaja, and when we walked through the bar it was lively and looked to be the place to go on a Friday evening, Couple of pints next time in the Inn before a feed wil be a must.
