Bryn Hyfryd

The Conwy Valley spreads out below this detached cottage, with Snowdonia's mountains visible across the landscape. Bryn Hyfryd sits on a rough track with its own parking for five cars and a private hot tub that seats six. The garden is built for outdoor living: a large decked area with furniture and a gas BBQ connects directly to the dining room through bi-folding doors, making the boundary between inside and out almost disappear.

The layout works well for two families or a larger group. Downstairs has two living rooms, each with a wood burner and a 42-inch TV, plus a kitchen with an electric range, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Three bedrooms sleep six: two doubles and a bunk room with a pull-out single. Both bathrooms have showers, and the main bedroom has its own ensuite. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; logs for the fires are stocked initially, then restocked via honesty box. One small dog is welcome.

The location suits walkers and cyclists, with country lanes leading through to Bodnant Garden's 80 acres and the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre nearby. Conwy's castle and medieval walls are a short drive further on.
