I had an amazing time on the Go Below Challenge! A huge thank you to Sarah and Ian for leading our adventure. They were both incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience fun from start to finish. Throughout the tour, they shared fascinating stories about the history of the mine. One moment that really stayed with me was when they explained how miners used to work by candlelight and what they had to do if their candle went out underground. Experiencing complete darkness inside the mine for the first time was truly unforgettable and gave me a whole new appreciation for what the miners went through. I didn’t have a car, so I walked from Betws-y-Coed to the Go Below base. After the activity, Ian kindly explained that there was a safer walking route back instead of following the main road, and he also told me which bus I could take. Both Ian and Sarah even offered to give me a lift back to the village. I was especially grateful to Sarah for driving me back to Betws-y-Coed—it was such a thoughtful gesture and I really appreciated her kindness. The challenge itself was exciting, well organised, and unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting North Wales!

Loved our time in the caves. The older gent was very knowledgeable and patient with us. Highly recommend going with an able/agile group to give yourself enough time to do the drop at the end. Make sure you listen to the instructions so that everyone can have as much fun as possible!!

What an incredible experience available to the public! We did the “Go Below Challenge” which is the smallest activity available, it’s a 5 hour activity that includes the drive to the destination, hike up through the forest to the cave entrance, the go below challenge in the cave, hike back to the vehicles through the slate quarry. The hardest bit for me was the hike up to the cave because I’m a Norfolk Gal, and I struggle with inclines, after we got to the cave it was great! On this challenge I never felt claustrophobic as the cave feels big, also if you don’t want to do parts of the challenge you do have the option not to, however such as the climb out of the cave is mandatory. I loved climbing the waterfall inside the cave as it isn’t slippery due to no light and no algae. I choose the 5hour experience as I wanted to have a good variety inside the cave and the boat really appealed to me, would love to return in the future to try the other experiences. The guides were wonderful, full of information about the cave and local area, and very friendly, I didnt feel rushed and the guide stayed with me whilst I fell behind hiking to the cave. You can take food, drinks and your phone but all your responsibility to tidy up, if you need a pee inside the cave they will find you a running stream, they didn’t mention “number 2’s” so id suggest go at the base before you leave/ when you return!

Had a wonderful day out on the ultimate extreme. Really friendly and welcoming guiding from Jonty and Ian, who shared such interesting knowledge on geology, local history and mining. They were super patient and supportive as we navigated zip-lines, abseils, traverses, and some wading through tunnels. It was really fun and exhilarating and challenging at times. I recommend wearing WARM socks, as you must wear wellys as you go through cold puddles. You need gloves as well, but if you forget these I think they can provide them. Tl;dr Great day out. Would recommend Shoutout Ian and Jonty for being the bestest.
