A good experience for the miniature railway with two young children and four adults. You can ride the railway without entering the museum, and vice versa. Rides are now £3 each (under 2 years free) and last 8 minutes. As all nearby car parks were full we had to park at the museum, despite dire warnings in other reviews - no problems (I couldn't see any cameras). See photo for charges. No toilets at the museum - 50p each in public toilets across the bridge near the public car parks. Lots of tourist shops nearby, cafes, etc.

Had the best time here a couple of weeks ago, great to see a miniature railways being preserved for people visiting to have a ride on. There’s also a lovely little shop if you’re wanting to buy any railways themed toys or products. The track is actually quite a long one with various aspects like a forest and bridges which make it less mundane compared to other railways. I’d 100% recommend it!

The miniature train ride is quite fun, our 3 and 6 year old kids definitely enjoyed it, and it does last just under 10 minutes as advertised. Can't say the museum was as good. The model displays are actually quite interesting, but clearly old and dusty. A few of the displays have buttons that should operate scenery or trains, but of the 12 or so buttons we found, only 3 actually worked, and the two that make trains move are just a single locomotive. The second half of the museum has a few interesting pieces, but is also a storage for older models that are clearly on sale.

We came on a Wednesday, but the museum was closed, even though their website says it is open from Wed-Sun. So, we drove an hour, spent money on petrol, had to disappoint our children...when we sent an e-mail to complain, it bounced. The e-mail address appears to be wrong or inactive. When I read more reviews, I discovered already since a year (!) people have complained about the website and Google Maps opening days not being correct. Why don't they out the correct days on their website? Why don't they take these complaints seriously? So bad and disrespectful for people who come for nothing...I can't understand this level of incompetence.

Visitors say this miniature railway offers a fun train ride with varied scenery, and the shop has a huge selection of model railway items. They also highlight the excellent value for money and the friendly staff.

Some reviews mention the museum can be poorly maintained.
