About Royal Standard Campsite

Plant your flag at this peaceful pub campsite in a quiet village ten minutes from the coast, where spotless modern facilities and a warm welcome set the tone. Set in green fields with free-range chickens pottering about and enough space for kids to run wild, Royal Standard offers a proper taste of rural Cornwall with low light pollution that rewards stargazers and the occasional badger or fox passing through at dusk.

The real draw here is the pub itself – reviews consistently praise the fantastic Caribbean-influenced food, impressive drinks selection, and genuinely friendly staff creating a cosy atmosphere you'll want to linger in. Campfires and barbecues are both allowed, and there's a small shop on-site if you don't fancy the two-mile trip to West Cornwall Shopping Park. Note the pub closes Mondays, though the campsite stays open. Choose from non-electric grass pitches or electric gravel options, all benefiting from those large, immaculate showers everyone raves about.

What visitors say

If you’re looking for a welcoming, character-filled pub in Gwinear, this place ticks all the boxes. From the moment you walk in, you’re met with a cosy, relaxed atmosphere that feels both traditional and stylish. The bar area is beautifully done, with a deep blue frontage, rustic wooden shelving, and a great selection of drinks on offer — from classic cocktails to local ales and fun £5 shots. Everything feels thoughtfully put together, with chalkboard menus adding to the authentic pub charm. There’s plenty of comfortable seating, including leather armchairs with bright cushions that make it easy to settle in for the evening. The pool table and dartboard add a proper community pub feel — perfect for a casual game with friends. The décor strikes a great balance between modern touches and classic pub character. What really sets this pub apart is the live entertainment. They host live music every Friday, creating a lively, upbeat atmosphere to kick off the weekend. On Mondays (once a fortnight), they run an open mic night — a fantastic opportunity for local talent to shine and for guests to enjoy something a little different. It’s the kind of place where locals gather, newcomers feel welcome, and there’s always something happening. Whether you’re popping in for a quiet drink, meeting friends for music night, or getting involved in the open mic, this Gwinear pub is well worth a visit. The food here is absolutely delicious, bursting with flavour and beautifully presented. Served in a Jamaican style, each dish is packed with rich seasoning, tender meats, and vibrant sides that bring everything together perfectly. What’s great is that the spice is balanced — full of warmth and depth without being overwhelmingly hot — so you can really appreciate the layers of flavour in every bite. From the juicy, well-marinated meats to the fresh, colourful salads and perfectly cooked sides, it’s clear that a lot of care goes into every plate. It’s comforting, satisfying food with a Caribbean twist that keeps you coming back for more. 🌶️🍗 Highly recommended for great vibes, good drinks, and proper community spirit. 🍻🎶

Lovely little pub tucked away in a more rural part of Cornwall, conveniently located near Gwithian and St Ives. My partner and I found this spot via the Park4Night app while looking for somewhere to stop overnight in our SUV, close to Gwithian Beach. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome. The pub had a great atmosphere and was run by incredibly friendly and helpful staff. We met a brother and sister who helped us get booked into a pitch for the night — both were genuinely lovely. We ate at the pub that evening and the food was fantastic. I had the chowder and my partner chose their popular jerk chicken — both were delicious and definitely worth recommending. The pitch itself was clean, well laid out, and easy to access. The following morning, before heading to Gwithian Beach for some bodyboarding (only about a 10‑minute drive away), we used the shower and toilet facilities. These were excellent — purpose‑built units that were spotless, modern, and clearly very well maintained. The showers were warm with great water pressure, which was very welcome after a chilly night and before a day in the sea. Highly recommend this location for anyone travelling or car camping in the area. Thank you for a great stay!

A brilliant addition to the village. Under the new ownership, this friendly local pub has truly come back to life. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming, the drink selection is premium, and the food is absolutely fantastic with a delicious Caribbean flair that sets it apart from anywhere else around. You can really see how hard the team has worked to revive what was once a closed business, and the passion shows in every detail. A wonderful place to relax, eat, and enjoy great company. Definitely recommend.
