Hallagenna Cottages - Old Barn Cottage

Photo: Caroline Rolls

Old Barn Cottage sits on the grounds of Hallagenna, a former farm in St Breward that has kept its rural character. The cottage occupies what was once a barn, sympathetically converted to provide a complete ground-floor layout where everything is on one level. You get two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with a single that pulls out to sleep two—plus a bathroom with bath and shower. The living space is open plan, bringing the kitchen, dining and sitting areas together, with Freeview TV and a DVD player for evenings in.

The kitchen is properly equipped for self-catering: electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer mean you can cook as much or as little as you like. A utility room with washer-dryer is on hand. There's a small enclosed courtyard garden with furniture and a barbecue. Essentials including electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are covered. One car space is allocated on site. You can bring one pet.

The location is the real draw. Hallagenna Riding Stables operate from the field directly opposite, and Bodmin Moor is accessible straight from the property—ideal for long walks or simply watching the wildlife that grazes the adjacent land. A traditional pub sits within a mile. The Camel Trail, an 18-mile cycling and walking route, is a five-minute drive away. The coast and villages like Port Isaac and Padstow are within reach for day trips. No smoking inside the cottage.

Perfect hosts with a lovely cream tea welcome. Rooms and bedding spotless, found everything we needed in the kitchen. Scenery and wildlife on the doorstep. Would heartily recommend. Denise

I think I've gone to heaven. Janine and Mick were wonderful hosts. They were happy to assist with any questions we had but left us to discover their beautiful area. The old barn cottage was clean, and our beds were very comfortable with beautiful bed linen. Make sure you pop into the local community store, about a 4 minute drive, and collect all your food staples. It may be small, but it's got everything you need, even sweet ladies to greet you, and have a friendly chat with. Just lovely ❤️

Stayed here from 16th Aug to 22nd Aug 2024 with friends. Lovely location, clean and everything you will need. Nothing to much trouble the owners were there. 20 minutes walk to village pub. Nice & friendly great pub menu & awesome Sunday lunch. Booking is a must. On the edge of the moors, I booked so l could use my 60th birthday treat. Went flying at the local airport on Saturday over the coast. Place is central to other attractions, either 30 minutes to 1 hour. Booked a riding lesson while there. Which is on site. Jenny, the owner, was a lovely instructor & her team was brilliant. Definitely recommend staying here. I will go back as so much to see & do. The only downside was the single bed. I'm used to a king-size bed. 😂

Lovely, homely and clean cottage. The area is beautiful, direct access to the Moor. Janine and Mick (and the rest of their family) are all very welcoming and friendly, to us and our dog who enjoyed every minute of his stay! Will definitely be back. Highly recommend Hallagenna Cottages.
