Kilbol Country Cottages - Camellia Cottage

Photo: Paul Siddall

Camellia Cottage is an upside-down layout that puts the main living space on the first floor, where patio doors open onto a large roof terrace. Downstairs, one bedroom has a king bed with ensuite shower, and the other contains two singles; a family bathroom with bath and shower serves both. Upstairs is an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with a wood burner, 40-inch smart TV, and Blu-ray player. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

The cottage sits in the owners' grounds near Mevagissey, on Cornwall's south coast. You get private parking for three cars and an electric car charging point (shared). Bed linen, towels, Wi-Fi and heating are included; initial logs for the burner are provided, with further supplies available. A travel cot, highchair and stairgate are on hand for families with young children. The grounds include a lawned garden with seating area and bike storage, though note there is an unfenced stream 30 yards from the property and a natural water supply from a bore hole. No smoking throughout. One well-behaved pet is welcome.

So after a 7.5hr drive we arrived to find that the owners had put the room light on and the heating. It was toasty warm.. We had a welcome gift of bread, butter, milk, eggs and jam (which helped because nothing was open at 1.30am) After a really good night's sleep on probably the most comfy bed ever we read the cottage guide, it was most helpful as it had the WiFi details and a list of supermarkets etc. Spending the week there was bliss so quiet.. Definitely worth going for couples wanting to get away from the city.. The beach was about 5 miles away so a car is needed... Going to book again for next year hopefully...
