Railway Cottage

Photo: Railway Cottage

Families and small groups will find Railway Cottage works well for a week away. The house has three bedrooms spread across two floors—a king bed with ensuite on the ground floor, a second king upstairs, and a bunk room for children. Two bathrooms mean everyone gets their turn. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking, and there are two sitting rooms if people need space apart.

An enclosed rear garden with seating at different levels catches the sun, and there's parking for three cars on site. The cottage dates from the 1880s and retains period details—slate floors, exposed beams, a wood burner in the inglenook. Heating and hot water are included, along with wi-fi, bed linen and towels. One dog is welcome at no extra cost. The property does not accept children under ten, and smoking is not permitted inside.

Railway Cottage sits on the New Port Industrial estate near Launceston, with the Launceston Steam Railway within walking distance. The borehole water supply and locally-sourced wood fuel are practical details worth knowing if you're planning to stay through winter.

We love this place and have been coming here for years. The cottage is warm and cosy and has everything you need. The owners are kind and thoughtful and my son enjoys the train rides.

Such a lovely place to visit. One fee, and you and can travel up and down on the quaint little steam train all day if you like. I love that it is a privately owned place with the owners busy working and so helpful. Dogs allowed , and a wonderful little cafe with pretty much all dietary requirements taken into consideration, lovely cake, and the sweet potato curry was so tasty. There are picnic benches, and a walk down past the train line to other picnic benches too. There is a shop and a museum on site too, so perfect for a family day out.

Absolutely charming period railway cottage, well maintained and any issues immediately dealt with, extremely comfortable queen size bed! The cottage has all you could possible want for a weeks stay, including its owners who welcome you! And are nearby, nothing is an issue, Kay & Nigel looked after us very well, and we could not have been happier. And we are already counting down the weeks to when we return in 2022.

Just had a lovely week in this beautiful cottage. Nigel and Kay made us feel so welcome. They run a beautiful narrow gauge railway, one that should not be missed. Will be back again next year.
