Sandy Barn Cottages - The Roost

Photo: Ian Symington

Bodmin Moor rises at the edge of this part of Cornwall, drawing walkers and cyclists to its tors and open moorland. The Roost sits at the end of a quiet private lane, a detached barn conversion with a picture window framing fields and distant views toward the north coast. The village pub and shop are within walking distance, and the beaches at Trebarwith Strand and beyond are a 20 to 40-minute drive away.

Inside, everything is on one ground floor level. A living space with wood burner and smart TV opens into a kitchen fitted with electric oven, hob, dishwasher and washer-dryer, so you can properly cook and do laundry. The bedroom has a kingsize bed, and there is a shower room with a cubicle shower. Underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump keeps things warm; electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. One dog stays free, and there is parking on site with an EV charging point available.

The cottage works for a couple wanting to explore both landscape and coast in turn, or for a single person wanting a rural base. A barbecue and bike storage can be arranged, and a cot and highchair are available if needed. No smoking inside.

Cosy stone cottage with a footpath straight onto the Moors, nothing more is needed, but much more provided. From the super dry wood for the very efficient woodburner, to the garage space for our motorbikes, to the sunsets from the patio doors and the spring lambs in the field at the back. High View is a little gem of a space to spend a relaxing and peaceful week of exploring the Moors, the coast and we even went to Truro on the community bus and got to know the locals. Thank you Kate for providing such a super little holiday home.
