Swallows Rest suits couples seeking countryside quiet without isolation. This detached lodge sits on the owner's grounds near Liskeard, with its own private parking and full independence. The single bedroom contains a kingsize bed; the bathroom has a bath with shower over and heated towel rail. Everything is on the ground floor, arranged around an open-plan living and dining space with French doors to a small terrace where you can sit outside.
The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking—electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine. Wifi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included. One pet stays free. There's no smoking in the property. A shop, pub and restaurant are roughly two miles away; the beach is about ten-and-a-half miles distant. Bodmin Moor lies a short drive north, and from here you can reach the coastal towns and fishing villages that scatter across Cornwall, or head towards Plymouth.

Just finished a week here and it's one of the best Cornwall holiday cottages we have stayed in. Very spacious and comfortable. Also close to main roads for easy access to different parts of Cornwall. The previous review is unfair - we found the price to be competitive and good value

We have visited Swallows Rest and its sister cottage on the same site Badgers Drift on several occasions in the past and have been well looked after by the previous owners, Kev and Sue. However, Kev and Sue have now sold them on to Geoff and Lily Pryce and, whilst the cottages are still good, they no longer represent good value for money. Kev and Sue had a large following of regular return bookings and their appreciation of that loyalty was reflected in the prices charged. Our last visit was October 2021 and, although Geoff and Lily had taken over by then, they had agreed to honour all bookings that had been made with Kev and Sue. We paid £375 as loyal returning customers for one week in October. Whilst we were there, Geoff expressed his desire to change the mattresses on the beds (the beds had always been really comfortable) and to install washing machines in each cottage (no need in my personal opinion but other holidaymakers might prefer it). He indicated that prices would therefore be increasing. Imagine our amazement when, on our departure day, he brought the new prices for us to see. The same week in October for 2022 was going to be £100 per night-£700 for the week! Badgers Drift was £5 per night more. Had the cost increased to, say, £500 per week we would have happily paid that. These are compact one bedroom buildings in the owner's garden, not near to the sea, not suitable for walking locally and the cost is not able to be shared with others due to the aforementioned one bedroom situation. Having investigated other properties in this area of Cornwall, there are plenty that represent better value for money by far than these two. It was a sad day when Sue and Kev retired and sold on.
