The Old Barn

Photo: Old Barn Tregonetha

You descend a short flight of stone stairs into The Old Barn's main living space—an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area with a woodburner for autumn and winter evenings. The bedroom is tucked above on a galleried mezzanine, reached by a wooden staircase. One double bed fits four guests; a cot, highchair and stairgate are available. The single bathroom has a shower cubicle and heated towel rail. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included, and one small dog stays free.

Saint Columb is a traditional Cornish village with two pubs within walking distance, a local shop, and easy access to St Agnes and Truro for more substantial shopping and dining. The coast is close—Porthtowan beach is nearby, while Perranporth, Portreath and other stretches of sand lie within reach for families and surfers alike. The region holds plenty for walkers: clifftop paths, coves, and regular sightings of porpoises and dolphins offshore. The Eden Project, Maritime Museum at Falmouth and various other attractions are within a reasonable drive. A car park on site holds one vehicle, and smoking is not permitted.

Just left the old barn after a weeks stay. All happy and relaxed On arrival the barn is spotlessly clean with vases of fresh flowers, a hamper of goodies, a fridge with farm goods for your first breakfast The Hypnos beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and are really really comfortable- if you are looking for somewhere to relax and spend time together in a luxurious home from home this place is perfect. Expect to feel cosy from the aga in the kitchen to the ambient underfloor heating - if you get a rainy day it lovely to stay home! The large enclosed garden is a bonus (especially for the dog to run around). The house is a little off the beaten track, 10 min drive to lots of places that are nearby (Padstow etc) but that actually made our time more relaxing Thanks to the owner Stephen for looking after us!

The Old Barn is a truly lovely place to stay... From the Aga warming the kitchen to the beautiful bedding and towels through to the amazing hamper of goodies - it seems that nothing escapes the eye of the hosts Stephen and Alan. The Old Barn has a timeless quality safe in the knowledge that it is ecologically sound, if only I could play the stunning Grand Piano in what can only be described as the Great Room at the top of the stairs! Everything has been thought of for you, ahead of you knowing you will need it - that in itself tells you just how good the quality of the hosting is.

Amazing cottage!! Stephen is an excellent host and I really reccommend that you can stay here when on holiday in Cornwall. The location of the cottage is great when you want to visit beaches and popular villages. Especially when you are a Poldark fan and wish to visit some of the locations, this cottage is either half an hour or an hour away! We would gladly stay there again!!

Not stayed at Old Barn yet but discovered it through Premier Cottages and been in contact with the owner, Stephen, about booking a future holiday when the Covid-19 outbreak has receded and we are able to travel again. Stephen incredibly helpful and kind. He accepted a provisional booking and didn't want a reservation deposit at this stage. Also gave a discount for 2 people occupancy. Thank you Stephen.
