Dickinson Place Holiday Cottages - Barley Store
Cumberland
View on Google MapsBarley Store began life as a working agricultural building, and the conversion has kept much of what made it distinctive—sandstone walls, exposed oak beams and cobbled floors remain visible throughout, creating a property with genuine character. The cottage sits within a courtyard setting near Allonby Primary School, a short distance from the Solway Firth coast.
The three bedrooms upstairs contain a kingsize bed, two singles, and a single, with a bathroom offering both a bath and separate shower. Downstairs, the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, the dining room opens from a generous entrance hall, and the living room has a smart TV for quieter evenings. The essentials—electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi—are included. An enclosed back garden with seating looks onto private parking for three cars. There is an on-site laundry room and games room available (both charged separately), and you can request a travel cot or highchair if needed. The property is non-smoking.
It works well for families wanting space without the formality of a hotel, or small groups who need self-contained accommodation with room to spread out. Allonby itself sits on the Solway coast, making it convenient for seaside walks or a base for exploring the wider Cumberland region.

Just had 4 Days at the Engine House, A Great find and perfect in every way, house was Spotlessly clean, full of character, warm and had everything you need, great location with some cracking Pub Lunches along the way! Owners were lovely and whilst living close by they left us to it, very chilled and relaxing, just what we were after, would certainly return, Thanks to all at Dickinson Place,

Fantastic cottages. Nothing was missed out and no issues or complaints to be had. Has to be the best place i’ve stayed, specifically the Engine House cottage. Couldn’t recommend enough! Thank you to Teresa and James.

I recently stayed at Dickinson Place Cottages & Caravan Park and it exceeded every expectation. Nestled in the peaceful coastal village of Allonby, this spot is an absolute haven for anyone looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a slower pace of life. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. The cottages are full of charm—spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need. You can tell there's a lot of care and pride put into every detail, from the cozy furnishings to the little personal touches that made it feel like home.
