Dickinson Place Holiday Cottages - Engine House
Cumberland
View on Google MapsFamilies and groups of up to six will find Engine House works well for a longer stay or a week by the coast. The converted stone barn sits in a courtyard at Maryport, a short walk from the beach and within reach of Allonby. You get three bedrooms—a kingsize with ensuite, a double, and two singles—plus a family bathroom, so there's space for everyone to have their own corner. A travel cot and highchair are available if needed.
Downstairs, the living room opens through to a dining kitchen where you can cook properly, with an oven, hob, microwave and full fridge. The character of the original barn is still there in the exposed beams and stone walls. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. There's an enclosed garden at the back with seating, private parking for three cars, and access to an on-site games room and laundry facilities (both charged separately). The property is non-smoking. Allonby is quieter than busier coastal spots, with the Solway Firth drawing walkers and families looking for a straightforward seaside break.

Just had 4 Days at the Engine House, A Great find and perfect in every way, house was Spotlessly clean, full of character, warm and had everything you need, great location with some cracking Pub Lunches along the way! Owners were lovely and whilst living close by they left us to it, very chilled and relaxing, just what we were after, would certainly return, Thanks to all at Dickinson Place,

Fantastic cottages. Nothing was missed out and no issues or complaints to be had. Has to be the best place i’ve stayed, specifically the Engine House cottage. Couldn’t recommend enough! Thank you to Teresa and James.

I recently stayed at Dickinson Place Cottages & Caravan Park and it exceeded every expectation. Nestled in the peaceful coastal village of Allonby, this spot is an absolute haven for anyone looking to unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a slower pace of life. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. The cottages are full of charm—spotlessly clean, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need. You can tell there's a lot of care and pride put into every detail, from the cozy furnishings to the little personal touches that made it feel like home.
