Gelt Cottage
Cumberland
Gelt Cottage is a stone-built mid-terrace property sitting within a 48-acre private estate in the Cumbrian countryside, with views across open fields toward the Lake District. The building has genuine character—a wood burner provides focal warmth in the living and dining room, and the layout keeps everything on two floors accessible and straightforward. Two bedrooms sleep four: a super kingsize and a kingsize bed upstairs, with a bathroom combining bath and shower. Downstairs, the kitchen has what you need to cook properly, and patio doors open from the living space into an enclosed, lawned garden where the hot tub sits waiting for four people.
The essentials—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi—are included, along with logs for the burner. The garden comes with furniture and a barbecue, and there is parking for two cars and a bike store. One dog is welcome; the setting is sheep country, so leads must be kept on at all times. The estate sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which means the gardens and grounds attract wildlife including woodpeckers and red squirrels. A mile's walk takes you into Castle Carrock village and its country pub; other walks radiate from Gelt Woods and Greenwell, or head up Carrock Fell. Brampton market town is four miles away and serves as a base for exploring Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District National Park. No smoking.
