Coniston Hall Campsite

I booked before reading the reviews, was anxious about the weekend but there were good and bad things about the site Good Super friendly staff Location is amazing Short walk to coniston and local walks Clean toilet block. Site is well maintained. Food from vans looked good, we only grabbed a coffee one morning. Bad Noisy, we were unlucky and had a pitch next to a noisy group playing music all evening up to midnight, then large groups returning from pub late in evening and playing music being very shouty and loud. I know everyone has different ways of relaxing, but I didn't want to listen to edm all weekend, its not good edm either. 50p showers, it's quite expensive to camp, then you pay extra for showers. Our pitch flooded after a night of rain so we had to evacute on our last day. A bit of a free for all on pitches. Midges!! - not the owners fault at all, but something to be aware of. I probably wouldn't go again, which is a huge shame as it's got a lot of potential to be an excellent site. Tips Get there early if you want a more peaceful pitch go near the hall and entrance. Bring ear plugs Bring midge spray Don't camp in a dip if rain is forecast, Bring cash.

Go if you if you suffer from main character syndrome and don't care how your choices affect others. Stay here if you plan to ignore any rules and party all night until the early hours of the morning. Someone was banging a drum (who brings a drum anywhere with them?) until long past midnight. Loud music, large groups, a complete free for all. Dogs running around off lead. Empty beer cans left by the lake side. Awful value for money. It cost us £80 for two people and a dog for one tent for two nights. At that price we thought the place might be well run but it's a pig-pen. They take your money, charge 50p for a shower, and leave you to it. If you want to be able to sleep, have a relaxing weekend, have value for money, not be surrounded by selfish people, and enjoy unspoiled surroundings - go absolutely anywhere else.

Just wanted to add- I hadn’t read the reviews about the campsite before I posted this, coming back after reading them it’s obvious the site is going down hill, maybe a change of ownership is required 🤷🏼‍♀️ Really poor experience today, rang at the start of the week asking to book in a group of 7 adults and 1 child for camping. My friend who called to book arrived at the same time as us, we went to check in and was told two night minimum. When shown the phone call as proof of the call she point blank refused and said she would not of said that even though we were all present during the phone call she made with the reception. So after driving 3 hours with our autistic daughter we were told we couldn’t camp as we arrived. They have also stopped day parking completely now. Compared to other sites on Coniston I’d much prefer to stay somewhere like Water Yeat where the owners are lovely, they don’t charge for paddleboards. Your car is included in pitch fees, they have toilets and a shop. Coniston hall is over priced at £16 per adult leaving 2 adults and 1 child the same price as staying in a glamping pod for the night. Showers are 50p on top of all the extra charges so aren’t included like other sites. They charge for anything they possibly can. Very rude staff that lie about what they’ve said. We stayed on the last bank holiday Monday for 1 night, we called and they said they could squeeze us in. Safe to say squeeze was a big push, the whole campsite was full and the barriers were conveniently broken that bank holiday weekend as every part of the grass was covered. Do you have an insurance limit to the amount of people allowed on the camping field? Is this why the barriers were ‘broken’ that weekend? Also was woken up to someone being arrested outside out our tent, police were all over the site the whole weekend because of rough people who were staying there. AVOID AVOID AVOID - rude staff, over priced and will lie and turn you away if you book on the phone!

Do Your Research Before Booking! So, we booked a 3 night stay Thursday- Saturday in June having not checked any reviews, but after booking we checked and I must admit we were concerned as all the poor reviews cannot be wrong, surely? However, as most others have said, if it’s a weekday not in school holidays, you may get lucky as the area is lovely and we found a nice spot. But, unless you like listening to thumping annoying music and being kept awake till the early hours, then again from 6am ish by walkers talking when passing through, you won’t be happy. Our first night wasn’t too bad to be honest, but Friday was terrible, then Saturday afternoon the place was crammed and full of people smoking weed, playing music and generally being a nuisance. The rules ARE NOT enforced at all based on what we saw. There were also lots of very large groups with gazebos that are not allowed and after trying to contact the number over 20 times to register our displeasure and inform them, it wasn’t answered. So we left a day early it was that bad. We’ve tried contacting them several times since and no reply. See the photos for an idea as 1 day we saw the bins being emptied and they left loads of rotting food all over the place then birds kept swooping down for it etc.. It just proved to me they don’t care about the place. It’s not exactly cheap either, so be careful is all I’m saying. Most won’t like it, but it may be your thing so research first.
