Tucked beside a tributary of the Afon Ystrad in the North Wales hills, this intimate, family-run meadow site offers just a handful of spacious pitches, each with its own picnic table and firepit. Greener Camping Club certified, Dolwen has been thoughtfully developed using local and recycled materials—expect composting loos, solar showers, and a genuine commitment to treading lightly. Summer brings wildflowers and a parade of birdlife: woodpeckers, kingfishers, and red kites are regular visitors, while the shallow river invites a cooling paddle on warm days.
The surrounding farmland ensures peace and quiet (single-sex groups aren't accepted, keeping things family-focused), though facilities can feel basic if you're after full hook-ups or pet-friendly pitches. From here, Eryri's peaks and the north coast's adventures are all within an hour, and the owners happily share local routes—including six different paths up Yr Wyddfa. A lovely low-impact hideaway for families seeking space, birdsong, and a proper campfire under the stars.

First time camping here back in may half term absolutely fantastic place, have nothing bad to say most incredible! Everything you needed in one place. : compost toile : flushable toilet : Washing station : Shower rooms : Honesty shed ( for anything you needed last minute) : A couple of board games/outdoor toys : Stone fire pit at every pitch And of course the river shallow in most places with a few deep parts, but perfect for them hot sunny days we had. The lady that owned the field was the most kind hearted lady I’ve met thank you so much.

Really beautiful campsite and one of the best we have been to. Really peaceful, set in lovely surroundings and pitches really well spaced out. River running through the back of the site adds to the peace and tranquility however it is not deep so good for kids to paddle in. Dave was a really lovely host and went out of his way to ensure we had all our needs met. Really amazing time and will definitely book again.

Honestly fantastic, we camp and hike all the time and this was my favourite camp site I’ve ever been too. Dave was so friendly and the camp site is perfectly kept, you get your own section with a pristine brand new bench for food and a perfect fire pit with flat ground so you get a great sleep. The sound of the river was soothing and there was absolutely 0 noise pollution from the road. With checkout being 12 as well you’re in no rush in the morning using the fantastic shower and toilet facilities. We will without a doubt be coming back again👏🏻

Host Dave was fabulous - so friendly and passionate about the environment. The site is beautiful and owners going above and beyond to make our stay lovely. Incredible facilities and right next to a stream. Only 8 pitches, all individual so quiet and peaceful.
