Camping around Denbigh means settling into the folded farmland and wooded valleys of the Vale of Clwyd, with the heather-topped ridge of the Clwydian Range rising to the east as a constant backdrop. As in the rest of Wales, wild camping is not a legal right and pitching a tent on open land requires the landowner's explicit permission; the safe and straightforward approach is one of the many established campsites, caravan parks and glamping sites dotted through the countryside around the town, several of them working farms that combine touring pitches with farm-fresh produce and views stretching to the coast. Options range from simple touring and camping fields to more developed caravan parks with full facilities, and increasingly to glamping setups such as tree tents pitched in ancient woodland within the Clwydian Range itself, giving a comfortable alternative for those who want the setting without the full camping kit.
The terrain here is gentler than the mountains further west, rolling farmland and wooded valley sides rather than serious upland, which makes it a relaxed choice for families and less experienced campers while still giving quick access to proper hill walking on Moel Famau and the wider AONB. Conditions are best from late spring to early autumn, when the ground is drier underfoot and evenings are long enough to enjoy a fire or a walk up to the castle for the sunset view over the Vale; several sites close or scale back over winter given the exposed, breezy nature of the higher ground nearby. Many campsites are within easy striking distance of Denbigh itself, Ruthin and the North Wales coast, meaning a pitch here works equally well as a base for castle-hopping, coastal days out, or simply walking straight from the tent into the hills. As with anywhere in this part of Wales, midge and weather variability should be expected, so a flexible itinerary and decent waterproofs are worth packing alongside the usual kit.
