The garden at Water Bailiffs Lodge contains unfenced ponds and a stream—a real feature of the landscape rather than a manicured backdrop. The property itself is the west wing of an 18th-century mill owner's residence, set within 16 acres of rolling countryside in the Lumsdale Valley. Three bedrooms sleep up to eight people across the whole property, with a king bed, a double, and a single paired with a narrower single in the third room. The two bathrooms comprise a corner bath with shower and an upstairs shower room.

Ground floor living space includes a sitting room with wood burner and exposed beams, a second room with a sofa bed (for children only), a kitchen with electric cooking and full appliances for self-catering, and a utility room. Parking is available for four cars on site. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; pets stay free of charge. The location is quiet and rural—a market town atmosphere exists in Matlock itself, reachable by car, and the Peak District is within reach for exploration on foot from the door.

No smoking is permitted in the property. A travel cot and highchair can be provided on request, and a welcome pack is supplied. The Lumsdale Glass works is among the nearby landmarks.

The perfect place for a break from it all, with plenty of walks or places of interest nearby for day trips in the car - ideal as a base for the Peak District. Lodge was lovely and clean and we enjoyed having the micro-brewery at the bottom of the driveway! Sits in its own elevated grounds, so private and peaceful. Highly recommended.
