Do not eat here. So I shall start with a couple of positives, the landlady kindly let us use their car park whilst we explored Matlock and the beer garden setting in the sun was quite nice. Unfortunately that is where the positivity ceases. I had booked lunch for a large group at 3pm and sent a pre-order in 2 days prior, we had turned up earlier than our booking but were quite happy to sit in the garden until the food was served, unfortunately this wasn’t until some 50 minutes after our booking. Some meals were ok, the majority were beyond awful. The lasagnes looked and tasted as though they had been cooked last week, and reheated several times. So dry, so burnt and incredibly lacking in flavour, an insult to all Italians. I cannot add what the chicken burger was like for fear of being blocked from Google. The steak was ok, and I believe the cheese sandwich was passable but it’s not hard to get cheese on bread wrong. We did complain and were offered £2 off each lasagne, an abomination. The bar staff gave us all of the excuses under the sun, ovens too small, one chef on etc etc. Of course the landlady/chef was nowhere to be seen post food. On top of it all the vibes inside were ergh, no lights, no music, loads of flies.

Great pub, great staff, great pies, steak and ale pie and mutton pie, both with proper mash and mushy peas. Stunning. Look forward to trying the Sunday roast.

AVOID! Stayed last night 11 June. When I booked I asked for hard standing as the weather was awful. I was told it was in the car park. When I asked did that mean cars would be in and out I was told no. What an absolute shambles the evening was with cars parking only a couple of feet from me. I basically paid £30 to sit in a car park. It's classed as a camp site with a welcome to our camp site board up-so why the cars. The law is there should be six metres between vans on a site. How are they getting away with this. Also did not use any of the facilities as my husband popped into the showers and said no way you're going to use them. No elsan for the emptying of chemical toilets. Disgraceful place.

A Hidden Gem in Matlock A delightful pub in Matlock, just outside the centre, but well worth seeking out. The food (steak and ale pie) was incredible and home-cooked, featuring a fantastic selection of beers and a lovely log fire. The landlord and landlady were charming, eager to engage in conversation yet also respectful of our space. This is a pub I cannot recommend highly enough. I shall return for their fine beer. Three are not enough stars to do this pub justice.
