A well-placed campsite near Barnstaple

About Brightlycott Barton

Brightlycott Barton sits just outside Barnstaple, making it a well-placed base for touring North Devon's coast and countryside. The farm campsite feels properly peaceful, with a mix of grass pitches – some electric, some not – spread across gently sloping ground. Facilities are thoughtfully done: accessible showers and toilets, a parent-and-baby washroom, games room and play area for families, plus launderette, communal fridge-freezer and bike hire nearby. Renewable energy and recycling show a green streak.

It's Duke of Edinburgh-friendly, welcomes dogs year-round, and barbecues are allowed. With indoor pools, restaurants, fishing and riding all close by, there's plenty to keep everyone busy between explorations of Exmoor, the coast path or Barnstaple's farmers' market. A solid, no-fuss Devon stopover.

This campsite is in a great location to see North Devon, only a few minutes from Barnstaple. We explored Lynton and Lynmouth, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands and Bideford from here. The owner was very welcoming and the facilities were great, clean and spacious. The pitch was level with stunning views over the country side. I would definitely recommend this site and booking direct via their website is recommended.

Lovely, quiet campsite with beautiful views. Showers and toilets spotlessly clean with the friendly campsite owner happy to chat and offer advice on the local area. Very competitive pricing, wish we could have stayed longer.

Great campsite, in a lovely location with lots of wonderful birds. We had bikes with us so cycled down the hill & joined the Tarka trail into Bideford. Charles was very friendly and welcoming, and even came back from a trip out to help us with a flat car battery!

A nice ordinary, quiet, clean campsite with great views. if you are doing the SWCP, and have your own transport, this is an ideal base for any of the the sections between Heddons Mouth and Westward Ho! For the best beer ignore the other pubs and get down to The Reform Inn in Pilton (with a chip shop in the same street). This campsite stands out for me because the owner was happy to run me down to the local parkrun.
