Tucked into ancient Devon woodland on the edge of the North Devon Coast National Landscape, Woodland Ways offers a proper back-to-nature escape with sustainable shepherd's huts as your base. Each locally made hut comes with a woodburning stove, fairy lights, comfortable bedding and mezzanine sleeping space for kids, while oak floors and insulation keep things snug. Outside you'll find hot outdoor showers, communal loos, hammocks strung between the trees, and a well-equipped alfresco kitchen with covered barbecue area.

The site's tiny scale (just a handful of pitches) guarantees peace, though a few visitors note the facilities can feel a little tired in places. Still, the location delivers: Woolacombe's surf beaches and Barnstaple's market are both 15 minutes by car, and there's a pub serving home-cooked food within walking distance. A safe play area keeps children entertained, while grown-ups can lose themselves in the forest setting. Cyclists should stick to the quiet lanes – the main road gets busy.

Unbelievablely beautiful place to stay. The set up is so well done and the views of the forest in the background are truly breathtaking. Location is perfect being so close to Exmoor and some of the best beaches including Woolacombe. Everything was so clean and I will definitely be returning.

Had a lovely autumn break at Woodland Ways. It is in such a beautiful setting with stunning views. The cabins are very well-kept, clean, and cosy, and the site is well-equipped with all the necessary facilities. We came away feeling revitalised - would definitely recommend and plan to stay again.
