About Tinhay Retreats

Tucked into peaceful Devon countryside just 15 minutes from Dartmoor National Park, Tinhay Retreats is a family-run eco-friendly farm that's become a favourite among families seeking a genuinely relaxed escape. The site hosts craft workshops—think pottery and woodwork—and children love meeting the resident animals. Pitches come with electric hook-up, campfires are positively encouraged, and dogs are more than welcome to roam alongside you.

Facilities cover the basics well: hot showers, drinking water and clean toilets, though there's no chemical waste disposal point or WiFi, so plan accordingly. Reviewers consistently praise the warm welcome and tranquil setting, though a few note that some areas of the site could benefit from a refresh. Still, with a 4.9 rating and that rare combination of countryside calm and creative activities, it's an appealing spot for families after something a little different.

This is a very happy place! Secluded and peaceful. Ran by a very easy going Toby (and his parents).Toby was our main contact and did an excellent job. You will have a chance to watch wild life, make friends with the dogs and cat of the house and feed the sheep! Your dogs will have space to run free and you will have the most chilled time and eggs from happy hens. There is a proper shower in a horse trailer and a cool fire pit. You could not ask for more.

Tinhay Retreat could be named Happiness Going Forward. A great little site, suitable for camping and small motorhomes. Lots of interesting nature to reward an early bird. Nice enough pub, I would recommend booking if eating, all a short side road walk from your field. The village has a well stocked shop and Post Office, next door an interesting hardware shop (selling gas) and garage. There are fresh eggs and honey available at the host house. Loved it.

This place is a small, secluded, peaceful and beautiful find. A caring and welcoming couple run a fantastic down to earth campsite that makes the basics feel luxurious. Spacious pitches, a river, sheep, pizza oven and even a meadow field! We will certainly be back soon!

So glad my journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats landed me here one night. After staying in a couple of the bigger commercial campsites, it was exactly what I was looking for. No snotty receptionist laying out the rules of the land (fair enough during COVID in some of the bigger places but do they have to be so snotty?) but a warm voice on the other end of the phone saying ‘come on by, no problem’. The site was so luxurious I felt embarrassed handing over £10. Luxury to me is a hot power shower all to yourself, a super clean toilet (although a drop box would do) and being offered freshly laid eggs for the morning. If you want super luxury, check out their glamping tents (I intend to one day). I only camped here, but believe Rob (the owner) does spiritual guidance. I like to think I’m pretty sorted spiritually, but if I’d have had time, I would have loved to sit and chew the cud with Rob, as he and Suzy are living the dream and we could all learn a lot from them. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with others. It is greatly appreciated 🙏
