About The Crown Inn

Walk into a room at The Crown Inn and you'll find an en-suite bathroom, drinks on hand and a comfortable base for exploring Ilfracombe, all set above a pub in The Square just a short distance from the harbour and Tunnels Beaches. Free WiFi and 24 hour reception mean the practical side is covered, while free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward.

Downstairs, the bar and restaurant are the heart of the place, known for a Sunday roast made with fresh, well-sourced ingredients and generous portions, plus a good spread of vegetarian choices. Breakfast is included, and the atmosphere throughout is calm and relaxing, helped along by staff who are consistently friendly and welcoming. Dogs are made properly welcome too, and the garden offers a quiet spot to sit outside.

Beyond the front door, Ilfracombe offers cycling routes, a golf course, and plenty of pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, so there is little need to travel far for a good evening out. It suits guests after a relaxed, unfussy stay with a proper pub at its centre rather than a polished, corporate feel.

We visited The Crown Inn in West Down for a family dinner whilst on holiday nearby and enjoyed our evening. The pub has a lovely cosy atmosphere and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and very attentive throughout our visit. There was a good selection of wines, ciders, and ales. Our food also arrived very quickly after ordering, which was great. That said, we were slightly disappointed that a few of our menu choices were already sold out, including the fish and chips, even though we weren’t particularly late and the pub didn’t seem overly busy at the time. We also felt that the children’s meal at £9.95, plus £4.95 for a single scoop of ice cream, was quite overpriced for what was essentially basic chicken nuggets and chips (especially compared to other nearby places we’ve visited) Nevertheless, we still had a good meal, enjoyed the atmosphere, and had a pleasant evening overall.

We had a wonderful stay at The Crown Inn. From the moment we arrived, we received a very warm welcome and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The pub is very dog friendly, which made the stay even more enjoyable for us. The room was lovely, clean, and comfortable, and the whole stay felt like great value for money. The location is also excellent — perfectly situated between the nearby villages and, with a car, within easy reach of several beautiful beaches and coastal spots. We would definitely recommend staying here and would happily return again!

Great Sunday roast (Roast potatoes were epic). Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would comment on the Sticky Toffee Pudding but the kids ate it before I got a look in.

A lovely little pub nestled out of the way of all the heavy tourist spots. You get the real North Devon experience. Friendly, welcoming and as if you've known them for years. Food is top tier! The Sunday roast is a can't miss! Thank you to Sue & Mark and of course your very helpful team!
