About Herston Caravan and Camping
Tucked away near Swanage, Herston Caravan and Camping offers a well-equipped base for exploring Dorset's Jurassic Coast. The site's generous pitch options—from electric grass plots to large fully-serviced hardstanding—give plenty of flexibility, while each pitch benefits from its own individual shower and toilet block, a touch that's earned genuine praise. Staff are friendly and helpful, and a food van serves reasonably priced meals if you'd rather not cook.
The location is a real strength: coastal walks, cycling routes, and watersports are all within easy reach, and the peaceful setting feels genuinely rural. Facilities can feel a little neglected in places, and noise occasionally carries across the site, but campfires are allowed and dogs are welcome year-round. It's a solid, unfussy choice if you want space, convenience, and quick access to some of England's most spectacular coastline.

What visitors say
We visit regularly, as group ranging between 8-15 in number, with kids and a mix of vans and tents. The site can be a little noisy at times as it is popular with groups and young folk. It’s also a pretty straight forward set up, but we’ve always found the facilities clean and convenient. We don’t own a motorhome, and I’d suggest that perhaps there are better options for those vehicles, but for our simple camping needs the site has everything we wanted in close proximity, as well as a basic bar, with a big screen TV (if you’re following the World Cup as we were). If you want high end facilities and all mod cons, there are more expensive options elsewhere. The onsite bell tents have a prime location and a wonderful view. The hard standings are basic. We like simple, clean and laid back. We’re not loud or intrusive, just a group of 40 and 50 something parents with grown up kids, who like to sit round the fire pit and enjoy a few beers, a BBQ and putting the world to rights. If that’s your vibe, then Herston’s is for you too.

Recently visited Herston Yard Farm Campsite for the 5th year in a row. I’ve read recent reviews and find them unfair. There is the Sea View field which is usually used for people stopping for the weekend and it usually gets a bit loud due to groups camping together. To be honest seaside campsite at the weekend it’s to be expected. We usually pitch up our motorhome on the Spearpoint field with a larger pitch. The team at Herston Farm are constantly maintaining site and upgrading facilities without disturbing campers. The facilities get covered in sand at the weekends but no surprise due to the volume of campers but there is cleaning equipment there to tidy up after you have used them but not everyone does. I agree with one comment on a previous review that some pitches as you enter site have permanent residence who don’t keep the area around their pitches as tidy as the rest of the site which is a bit disappointing but won’t stop us staying. All said we love staying there and the position is ideal for walks to Corf and into Swanage. Big thanks to the Herston Staff see you next year the Whiteheads.
