Gore Cottage

Photo: Gore Cottage

West Milton sits in quiet farmland between Bridport and Beaminster, a mile or so back from the Dorset coast. Gore Cottage is a detached period property in this village setting, sleeping five across three bedrooms and one bathroom. The ground floor has a sitting room with a woodburner, a kitchen/dining room with electric cooking and a washing machine, and one single bedroom. Upstairs are two further bedrooms—a double and a twin—so it suits families or two couples sharing. The essentials are covered: bed linen, towels, heating, hot water and wi-fi are all included, along with initial fuel for the stove.

The cottage comes with a garden and sitting-out area, parking for two cars (a hundred metres away), and a travel cot and highchair if needed. The property is reached via a footbridge over a stream. Smoking is not permitted. From here, West Bay's dramatic cliffs are within easy reach, the Jurassic Coast stretches east with its fossil beaches, and Bridport itself—known for its independent shops, markets and community events—is close by. Beaminster offers quieter high street browsing. This is countryside walking country, with the South West Coast Path not far away.

Beautiful place

We stayed at Gore cottage in August 2018 and had a really special week, feeling as if we had stepped back in time. My daughter was mortified when she learned that there would be no internet. It was in fact the best thing that could have happened. We played cards, walked and read several of the many wonderful books that were abundant there. The cottage is nestled in the prettiest of gardens. Our two dogs were fascinated by the sheep that grazed in the adjacent field and loved the walks through the undulating hills and coastal routes as much as we did. The local pubs provided a great choice of tasty foods, excellent cider and friendly company. We would love to return to the area and wouldn’t hesitate to choose Gore cottage again.
